plan for an original short 2 to 3 minute animation, or section of an animated

a)
selection of form
For
this unit, we will be creating a short for a Netflix Sci-Fi Show. This short
will feature 3D elements alongside live action sequences and visual effects.
Elements of 3D modelling include the mothership, alien heads, cockpit, fleet
of spaceships and earth orbital defence system. The visual effect will
include the mothership descending onto the earth. The live action will
include an alien student fleeing the classroom after hearing the noise of the
alien fleets.

b) selection of animation type
The primary animation type will be
3D CGI (Computer generated images). This will be produced in the softwares
Maya and Adobe After Effects. This
type of animation will be applied to the alien spaceship fleet which destroys
the Earth Orbital Defense System. There will also be a warp scene where the
ships transport to the solar system, similar to films such as Star Wars.

selection of
genre/style
The short will be of the sci-fi
genre. To fit the criteria of the genre we will be using some of the common
tropes. Aliens, for instance, are a predominant feature in the sci-fi genre,
which our film includes. It will be featuring the setting of space. The alien
spaceship models will appear to be high tech, futuristic and bizarre, which
many sci-fi films choose as a style to show how alien or otherworldly the alien race is.

narrative and/or character development
The story begins in a
classroom with several students dotted around a pair of students are talking
to a teacher. The sounds of the students slowly muffle out as an odd beeping
begins to take over the sound. A
student sits asleep in the corner of the class with his head on the desk.
He’s wearing a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans as well as a pair of white
trainers. The student has short hair and is rather tall. As more noise from
the classroom fades out and the mysterious sound takes over the student wakes
up and begins to look around the classroom he sees people speaking but can’t
hear them.
Deep space
An alien ship is seen
floating in space random planets appear in the background. In the cockpit of
the ship an alien sits it begins to push buttons and turn dials each one
making its own distinctive sound. The ship is seen floating in space once
more but more ships slowly come into vision an entire fleet of spaceships is
revealed with a mothership at the centre much larger and menacing than the
others.
Back in the cockpit the
alien pushes one more lever and all the space around the ship begins to zoom
past the ship specs of light zoom past the cockpit as the ship goes through
warp drive. In earth's solar system the earth and the moon can be seen in
space suddenly the entire alien fleet zooms into the solar system and begins
to fly towards the earth.
An orbital defence
system near the moon extends its panels and begins to move positioning itself
towards the fleet. As the orbital defence system charges up the fleet get
closer to the planet. The orbital defence system charges and fires a shot at
the fleet one fighter ship is hit out of the many other ships the same ship
takes no damage and fires back at the orbital defence system incinerating it
in the blast. The ship continues its path towards earth.
Classroom
The student hears
nothing but the deafening sound of the alien beeping. The student slowly
becomes more distressed by the noise and runs out into the corridor. He then
runs down the corridor cupping his hands over his ears to try and stop the
sound going through him. He runs outside and onto a field the deafening noise
stops.

Health & Safety
|
Due to the winter environment; the exterior filming would be plagued with chilly british weather, which could present
health and safety risks such as catching colds and mild hypothermia. To combat this, staff and actors will be encouraged to wear thick clothing.
The tripod presents a health and safety issue on potentially snowy ground, as the slippery terrain might put the equipment
at increased risk of falling over, breaking, and injuring people standing in its way.
The potential of snow presents a risk of slipping.
